4) Add one half teaspoon of bleach to one gallon of bottled water and pour into the reservoir. (Tap water may be used but may include metals, sediments and flourides not found in bottled water.)

5) Using a clean, soft brush, scrub the inside of the reservoir. Let stand four (4) to five (5) minutes. Caution: Do not let the bleach solution remain in a stainless steel reservoir for more than five (5) minutes or damage to the reservoir will result.

Cleaning procedures for Bottled Water Coolers WITH Hot Water Tanks.
1) Unplug the cord from electrical outlet.

2) Draw water from the hot faucet until the water is cool.

3) Remove bottle. Caution: A nearly full bottle of water weighs over forty pounds and can be awkward to handle. It may be necassary for you to drain water from the bottle until it becomes manageable.

4) Remove the bottle gasket or bottle ring (if applicable) and the plastic baffle. Set aside to wash in hot soapy water later.

5) Drain the hot water tank through the hot water faucet until the water becomes cold. Drain any remaining water in the cold water reservoir through cold water faucet.

6) Clean the cold water reservoir following procedures 4 - 7 in the Cleaning Procedure for Bottled Water Coolers Without Hot Water Tanks.

7) Drain the hot tank. Caution: Be sure to drain water from the cooler through the hot water faucet before removing any plugs or opening any valves on the hot water tank. Failure to do so may cause a burn injury.
Because of the variety of coolers and manufacturers, the owners manual should be consulted for hot tank draining procedures. Depending on the cooler manufacturer, hot tank type, cooler model number and the location of the drain plug, a side panel may have to be removed.
EBCO's coolers have either a metal plug, a plastic fitting or a petcock. If the plug is metal use two wrenches to remove it. If it is a light gray fitting, depress the dark gray collar and remove cap or plug. If it a black valve, turn the petcock to open.

8) Replace the cap, plug, or turn the drain valve to a closed position when the tank is empty.

9) Mix four (4) ounces of citric acid crystals with one quart of hot water. (Wearing gloves is recommended).

10) Place a funnel inside the cooling tank at the center fitting. Carefully pour the hot solution into the funnel.

11) Remove the funnel and fill the cooling tank reservoir with bottled water until the water level is about 3" from the top. To allow the hot tank to fill, open the hot faucet until water begins to flow, then close the faucet.

12) Plug the cord into electrical outlet and let the unit stand for at least twenty (20) minutes.

13) While the citric acid solution is cleaning the hot tank, this is a good time to clean the bottle gasket or bottle ring, the plastic baffle and the drip receptor in hot soapy water. Drip receptors come in one or two pieces. To remove the drip receptor lift up and out. If the drip receptor has a screen, remove it before washing. Rinse thoroughly.

14) Unplug the cord from electrical outlet. 15) Using rubber gloves and being cautious of water which may scald, draw water from the hot faucet until the flow ceases. Open the heating tank drain catching the water in a pan or bucket. The water will be discolored. Note: This drain water should be immediately poured down a plumbing drain to prevent accidental spilling - this water will stain.

16) Pour at least one gallon of bottled water into the cooling reservoir and allow this water to drain out the heating tank drain. Drain all remaining water in the cooling tank through the faucet.

17) Replace cap or plug or turn the drain valve to a closed position when the tank is empty.

18) Clean any lint or dirt from the back of the unit with a non-wire stiff brush or a vacuum cleaner.

19) Replace the side panel (if necassary), baffle, cooler top, bottle ring or gasket, and the drip receptor.

20) Wipe up any spills or splashes from around the reservoir ring and on the cooler top.

21) Place a bottle of water on the unit.

22) Depress the hot water faucet until water begins to flow. This procedure allows the hot tank to refill with water. Failure to do so may result in damage to the hot tank.

23) Plug the cord back into the outlet.

24) After the unit has run for ten to fifteen minutes, draw at least one quart of water from each hot and cold faucet.
